A Surprise Mystery!

If you drive around the Daglan area you will be in for a big surprise! I do love solving mysteries but this one I think is a mystery just for this area, but I could be wrong. Upside down road signs are everywhere. Could this be for low flying aircraft, some kind of fun test, or just to make drivers and pedestrians look at the signs? Who knows! It certainly made Paul and I look and take a few pictures. If you know please tell us.

Two out of three.

.

Just two here.

.

For the maximum of four.

.

We also noticed the village signs for Cénac-et-Saint-Julien were upside down but didn’t take a picture.

There could be a lot more upside down village signs so have a go and see how many you can find.

Event:-Sarlat Christmas Market starts on the 9th December at 5pm.

Les Jardins de Picami.

Les Jardins de Picami just outside Daglan on the D60 road to Saint Pompon have the most fresh and delicious produce that you can buy. All organic, harvested the day of sale and at a low price. The farm shop is now open every Thursday from 16.30 to 18.30. They may not sell the same things every week because they rely on what is ready to pick and eat. Which I think adds to the buying experience. You buy the produce then decide what to make.

Romuald and Laetitia offer their produce for sale in a variety of places locally:

At Cénac market on Tuesday morning.

At the farm shop on Thursday from 16.30 p.m. to 18.30 p.m, with or without pre-order (same form as for the lockers, link below)

At the market in St Cybranet on Friday morning.

By order and collection from the lockers seven days a week, twenty four hours a day with a pre-order the day before at the latest, instructions for the use of the lockers are at the end of this post.

If no one is there to serve just ring the handy bell.
Fresh produce which tastes amazing.
Romuald, ready to serve his delicious fresh vegetables

Reminder of how “Picami Lockers” work:

Step 1: You place your order by clicking on the order link, you can see what produce is ready to buy. Orders must be placed the day before your pick up at the latest. When ordering, you will have to choose a day and a two hour time slot on which you want to collect your order.

Step 2: You will receive confirmation informing you that they have taken your order into account. Usually they confirm orders at the end of the day.

Step 3: You receive the information for collection of your order the morning of the day you have chosen for pick up (they always harvest the morning of your order for absolute freshness), by email with:
* the allocation of your locker and the padlock code (which will change after each passage
* the amount of your order to be paid in cash or by check (payable to R. Jousselin)
or by text message if you have chosen this option in the order form
If you are a regular customer, they can also agree to a end of month settlement.

Step 4: you collect your order. The lockers are at the entrance to the farm by the road.
Because of the freshness of the vegetables it is advised to pick up the produce on the day and time on the order form. They will place your order in the locker just before the pick up time so that the vegetables are preserved as much as possible. Please do not leave it until after your selected time since it is possible that someone else’s order has to be placed there.
You place your payment in the locker in cash or by check and close the padlock.

Enjoy your produce.

Praise for the French Health and Veterinary Services.

We have had a bit of everything this week but things are getting better. First my husband Paul had to have more tests at a excellent Jean Coulon hospital in Gourdon. Paul had an operation for prostate cancer a year ago, which I am pleased to say was a great success, he is now cancer free. But when more tests were needed this week due to passing a little blood, we were both worried once more. However, so pleased to report that after the tests were completed no cancer was found. Wow, de-stress was needed in the form of Yoga and a drink or two.

Secondly our little Angel was so ill last weekend that a visit to the Veterinary Clinic in Gourdon was needed first thing Monday morning. I hate going to any vets just in case it is bad news. However, the vet gave her a good checking over, Angel purred at the vets ministrations, she loves to have a massage and seems almost pleased to see him. No temperature and after two injections she was able to run back to her pet carrier. So armed with medication and a big sign of relief, we all returned home. More Yoga and more de-stress.

Angel is still not a hundred percent but she is slowly getting better each day and is now able now to go outside to relax in the sunshine.

And, unsuccessfully, hide in her box.

The veterinary service that we use is called Clinique Veterinaire Des Fauvettes on Route de Salviac in Gourdon. We highly recommend the service to everyone. Their help and advice is second to none.

They cover domestic and farm animals and are open everyday but Sunday. They have two consulting rooms, an ultra sound consulting room, x-ray, digital camera, surgery room for domestic and another room for farm animals, recovery rooms plus stables and paddock at the rear. There is a very handy shop in the reception area were you can buy a variety of products, for example food, dietary needs, medicine and pet toys etc.

Angel with her “I do not feel well” look on her face.

Glad to say that she is eating now and looking more like her normal self.

Bless her.

Children’s Carnival

The Judgement of Pétassou.

The start of Spring is always celebrated in the South West of France by the Children’s Carnival and the Judgement of Pétassou. The children of Three Schools of the Céou Valley RPI make the most cute and original costumes, then get together to parade through Daglan village with the very naughty Pétassou on the back of the tractor.

The Judgement of Pétassou dates back to Medieval Times, when he was/and still is thought to have performed many disagreeable acts from theft to large explosions, which is why he is the focus of the carnival. He is then judged by the children, found guilty and burned on a bonfire.

By the beat of the drums Pétassou is paraded through the streets of Daglan.

So cute the children form the Primary Schools wearing the magnificent costumes.

Dancing and singing by the children, teachers and parents.

Here he is.

Songs to rid the villages of Pétassou and the cold Winter months.

Singing the Pétassou song with actions the children of the three schools send Pétassou away, the cold of Winter is gone and the start of Spring is here.

The children, teachers and parents gather around the flames.

Sound the flute
Beat the drum,
Birds delight
Day and Night,
Nightingale,
Lark in the sky,
Merrily, Merrily, to welcome
in the Spring.

William Blake (1789) extract from the Songs of Innocence.
