Premier Prix Balcon Fleuri

It was so unexpected but it is so fantastic.

I had only arrived home from hospital after two operations a week before, and to be honest I was in a lot of pain and feeling very low, when a friend of ours asked Paul if she could enter our balcony into the annual Daglan flower competition. Paul said no thank you and explained that I could not tend to the flowers. However, when he told me it motivated me to think about the balcony, I decided that I could possibly get out there and maybe just tend to one of the containers per day it gave me a target to aim for, I could do this. Paul spoke to our friend who did enter our balcony in the competition.

It was a very slow process just a few steps and one container at a time but I made it. The impact on my mental and later physical state was just unbelievable. I needed that push and it worked.

A few days ago we were most surprised to be presented with a certificate, a bottle of champagne and a voucher for thirty euros for plants from a local fleuriste. I think that we both missed half of what was told to us, we were just in shock, but very happy and very proud to have won.

A very large thank you to our friend for putting our name forward, you made a big difference to my life. Thank you also to the Mairie and the Competition Jury.

The Champagne has the Marie on the label.

The balcony with hanging baskets. I particularly love the variegated ivy which hangs over the edge. The basket of yellow petunias were a present from Chris and Verginie at the 8 à Huit when I returned from hospital

Vibrant reds protrude through the green.

Love our cauldron which are very popular in this area for planters.

Events : This weekend.

  1. How marvelous that you decided to work on the flowers one at a time, and then the judges liked your balcony the best!! That is amazing! Congratulations! Best Wishes on your recovery, too.
